Frequently Asked Questions

An ENSEMBLE is 2-or-more people playing.
All students are to play a solo, but ensembles are optional as student musicians put selections together with their friends!

WHEN does my child play? WHAT is the schedule for the day?
Each School is given a 45-90 minute slot for their students. Students are each allotted 5-minute slots to play their selection for the Adjudicator who will give written and verbal feedback on their performance. Your child's instructor will have all the details.
WHAT is Honor Band?
Several hundred students are enrolled in Band each year through the American Independent Music Association, and each year the "best-of-the-best" students from each district are nominated for admission to HONOR BAND. This is a great honor! These select students have the option to attend an HONOR BAND TOUR, where we've gone to Washington DC, Virginia Beach VA, Lynchburg VA, Winston-Salem NC, Charlotte NC.
HONOR BAND nominations are determined in part by students' Solo/Ensemble performance. Students desiring to qualify for HONOR BAND should be prepared to play song #133 (Ach! Du Lieber Augustine - German Folk Song) on page 29 of their Standard of Excellence Book, or a more difficult selection.
